You may have already heard about the nutritional benefits of eating whole foods right? Well this is also true for our dogs! When including whole foods into your dog's diet, they are getting all of the nutrition that an ingredient has to offer. For example, fresh food includes ingredients like whole peas rather than just pea starch. This means that dogs are getting more protein and fibre from the peas, rather than just the sugars in the pea starch. Because why take out the healthiest nutrients in your dog's diet, when they can just eat whole foods?
Nutrition is based around 5 basic nutrients; protein, fibre, fat, essential vitamins and essential minerals. Whole foods ensure that these nutrients are met but with no extra additives. The ingredient list is easy to read and understand with full clarity.
One great benefit of being on a subscription program for your dog’s food is that your pooch’s meals are tailor made for their needs. At Kabo we proportion each of your dog’s meals to meet their daily calories needs. As a result, you can focus on feeding your pup and no longer have to worry about if you are over or under feeding them. With obesity being the number one disease in pets today, having custom portion food for your dog is a way to ensure they are in tip top body condition. Additionally, if you are looking to keep track of the exact amount your dog is eating per day, we have created an easy to use Kabo calorie calculator.
As a Canadian company, we pride ourselves on being able to source all of our fruits, vegetables and proteins are sourced Canada and our nutrient mix ingredients are sourced within North America. By doing this we can make sure that we are supporting local agriculture and ensuring that our ingredients come from ethical, sustainable sources.
At Kabo, we love the environment and we are constantly doing our best to reduce food and packaging waste. Here’s a few ways we are doing that:
Our boxes — Made from 100% recyclable and biodegradable materials. All you need to do is fold them up and put them with the rest of your household recyclables.
Our insulation — We use insulation made from fully recyclable materials. You can throw these right in with your other household recycling!
Pre-portioned meals — By putting the exact amount of food your dog requires in each of our vacuum sealed packs, we reduce food waste by up to 50%.
The key to a happy tummy is by eating digestible foods. Kabo uses ingredients that are highly bioavailable to dogs and therefore more digestible. This is because it is lower in resistant fibre and higher in moisture and available nutrients. Higher digestibility equates to a greater accessibility of nutrients and a higher rate of absorption in the gut. Food that is easier for dogs to digest means fewer and smaller stools, and more importantly, a happier and healthier dog.
Did you know that 70-80% of immune function is closely related to gut health? Dogs need to eat a healthy, balanced meal to support a strong immune system. Feeding dogs a diet with healthy superfoods, antioxidants and other functional ingredients can help prevent disease, boost healing and reduce inflammation. A few great immune boosting ingredients in Kabo recipes are cranberries, blueberries, leafy greens, carrots, green beans, rosemary and sweet potatoes!
We work with a team of companion animal nutritionists to formulate our recipes and make sure that they are balanced and meet the needs of dogs in all life stages. We also have two veterinary and companion animal nutrition experts on staff, Andrea Geiger (BSc, MSc) - Kabo Companion Animal Nutritionist and Dr. Suzee Camelleri (BSc, MSc, DVM, DVMSc) - Kabo Veterinarian and Pet Expert.
Chances are you’ve heard a lot about the health benefits of omega 3’s. Omega 3 fatty acids come from a class of polyunsaturated lipids that are extremely important for metabolism and daily physiological processes. There are 3 different types of omega 3 fatty acids; alpha linoleic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).
Omega 3s are most notably involved with lowering inflammation and playing a role in the structure of cell membranes. As a result they can greatly improve the skin, joint and coat health of dogs. Additionally, omega 3s have been shown to improve cognitive brain function. A diet with polyunsaturated fatty acids could actually prevent dementia in dogs. With these health benefits in mind, we have made sure to supplement our diets with multiple omega sources including flaxseeds, chia seeds, and fish oil.
There are some pet food companies that unfortunately tweak their formulas to include unnecessary ingredients to improve their bottom line. Substituting ingredients like corn meal for actual protein is not the best approach to feeding dogs. With Kabo recipes, meat is always the first ingredient on the list. Furthermore, there are no added fillers, food coloring, artificial flavors, preservatives or other unnecessary ingredients here!
In Canada there is no governing body that sets requirements for pet food sold and distributed in the great white north. This is why many Canadian companies choose to follow American guidelines set by the US association called The Association of American of Feed Control Officials (or AAFCO) that establishes the nutritional standards for complete and balanced pet foods.
At Kabo we aim to keep your dog fed and nourished from puppyhood through to their senior life. This is why we formulate all of our recipes to meet AAFCO requirements for all life stages. This means that all Kabo recipes meet the needs for dogs of any age including puppies, adults, seniors and even pregnant dogs!

“First of all, my dog LOVES Kabo. She is a very fussy eater but since we’ve started Kabo she licks her bowl clean. Also, we had an issue with one delivery and I contacted Kabo and within two days had another delivery. Excellent customer service! We highly recommend Kabo.”

Our 10 month old Frenchie pup always waits till 10pm to eat her food - doesn't eat all day then eats at bedtime just because she realizes that's all that she is getting. We have been using Kabo toppers now for a few weeks and we mix it with her kibble and she eats everything! Licks her bowl clean. Her coat looks great. So happy we found Kabo!
