Dietary needs for a

Shih Tzu

Protein

Obesity, allergies, and sensitive stomachs are common dietary health issues facing shih tzus. A high-quality food is vital to keep them at a healthy weight and comfortable. Kabo fresh recipes use human-grade animal protein sources as the 1st ingredient. Quality, digestible proteins along with custom portioning will help keep your shih tzu at their ideal weight- a must for avoiding joint stress and other health complications.

Parents of shih tzus that are allergic to common meat proteins such as chicken, will appreciate the Luscious Lamb recipe. For dogs that are on a grain-free diet, our Savoury Beef variety is an excellent option.

Carbohydrates & Fiber

Shih tzus require carbohydrates to provide them with energy and fiber for digestive health. Kabo uses only natural whole sources of carbohydrates such as russet potato, sweet potato, chickpeas, squash and rice- depending on the recipe. We don’t use any fillers, corn or wheat for carbohydrates like many dry foods.

With no official guidance from AAFCO on carbohydrates, pet parents can rest assured- we’ve formulated our menus using our in-house animal nutritionists. Kabo only uses nutrient dense produce, all of which serves a different function. Canadian fruits and vegetables including red apples, green beans, carrots, spinach, kale, and broccoli are used in our recipes for fiber and essential vitamins, and minerals such as potassium, vitamins A, C & K, folic acid, iron, and more.

A shih tzu's digestive tract can be notoriously sensitive and prone to inflammation. Our chicken and rice option is gentle on their stomachs when they are upset. Also, you may notice that after a couple of weeks of feeding Kabo, their loose stool is tighter, more uniform, and they’ll be less gassy too! :) You may also notice their energy level increasing as well.

Fats

Fats are an essential part of your shih tzu’s balanced diet, as it is for humans. But it’s important to get just the right amount of fat content, and the right types. Shih tzus sometimes experience issues with dry irritated skin, which is often worsened by environmental/food allergies and their own licking or itching. Including Omega fatty acids in their diets supports healthy skin, a beautiful coat, immune function, cardiovascular health, joint health and more.

Our food contains essential fats from lean meats, and is supplemented with fish oil and sunflower oil to provide both Omega-3 fatty acids and Omega-6 fatty acids. Great for heart and joint health. No pricey supplements required!

We’re thrilled with Kabo dog food

We’re thrilled with Kabo dog food. Our 11 year old Shih Tzuh Cooper was not liking his previous pet store food and had digestive issues with it (including terrible gas). As soon as we started feeding him Kabo, he started enjoying his meals again and was 100% healthier with zero digestive issues.

Momo is a 14 year old Shih Tzu who has many food sensitivities. Outside of me making his food Kabo has been the only dog food that works for him! He loves his food and no one or vet ever believes how old he is 😉
